Thousands sniff out Snoopy sculptures during first week of art trail

Thousands of Snoopy fans have pawed their way across South Wales for the first week of the public art trail, A Dog’s Trail with Snoopy, all to raise money for Dogs Trust.

Visitors from all over the UK, including some devoted Snoopy fans from Dundee, Cornwall and Norwich, as well as international visitors from America, have spotted the brightly coloured Snoopy sculptures out on the open-air trail through the streets and public spaces of Cardiff, Caerphilly and Porthcawl.

Since the trail launched on Friday 8th April, the app has recorded more than 53,000 visits to individual sculptures – with around 1,400 selfies uploaded to its gallery.

The trail lasts eight-weeks and features a 115-strong pack – with the 40 giant sculptures being auctioned in June to raise funds for Dogs Trust.

A review from a trail-goer on the trail’s Facebook page said: “Been hunting for Snoopy all over Cardiff the last 2 days with my mum and her partner. A fab weekend. Lots of fun! We loved your shop too!! We have found 33 in total!”

While another read: “Spent the whole weekend hunting and found them all. Great family weekend!”

Despite several of the sculptures being damaged in the first week, the Trail team say they are remaining positive, and the joy the trail is bringing to people across South Wales is wonderful to see.

Rebecca Staden, Project Manager for A Dog’s Trail, said:

“It’s amazing to see so many people exploring the trail and reconnecting with friends and family. Sadly, several of the sculptures have been significantly damaged since the trail launched, which we’re all devastated about, but the good news is that they can all be repaired and will be re-joining the pack soon!

“The app is a really great way to discover the sculptures – as well as unlocking rewards for local businesses and attractions as you go!

“Most of all we love seeing all the selfie with the Snoopy sculptures – there are some brilliant snaps of people meeting our pack, please keep them coming!”

The app is free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Trail maps are available from various outlet across the trail route including from Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Cardiff and the A Dog’s Trail Shop in Mermaid Quay, which is open 10am-4pm Wednesday-Sunday for the duration of the trail selling everything from Snoopy plush toys and tote bags to dog collar charms and doggie accessories.

A Dog’s Trail runs until Sunday 5th June. Once the trail has ended, there will be a final chance to see all 40 large Snoopy sculptures together at a farewell event at Cardiff City Hall Lawn in Cardiff from 17th-19th June. When the trail ends, the sculptures will be auctioned at a special event at the Coal Exchange on 21st June to support the work of Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity.
