After eight weeks of being petted, photographed and enjoyed by thousands, the 40 large ‘A Dog’s Trail’ Snoopy sculptures that have brightened the streets, shopping centres and parks of Cardiff, Caerphilly and Porthcawl are ready to find their forever homes.
Having enjoyed a final farewell to the dog lovers of South Wales with all the sculptures on show at Cardiff City Hall Lawn from 17th-19th June, Snoopy fans from far and wide will be able to bid to have the chance of owning one of the one-off sculptures, and raise money for Dogs Trust.
Becca Morris, Dogs Trust Special Events Officer and organiser of the auction, says:
“The auction is the final event for A Dog’s Trail with Snoopy where the amazing sculptures will be auctioned off to help us raise vital funds for Dogs Trust. We hope to raise tens of thousands of pounds and every penny raised on the night will go towards helping make sure we can give every dog that comes into our care, everything they need until they find the forever homes they desire and deserve.”
TV personality and renowned auctioneer, Charles Hanson, will be taking to the stage to host the auction which will take place at The Coal Exchange Hotel on 21 June. There will also be a live online auction running in sync with the ‘in the room’ bids on the evening.
Since the trail was launched in April, more than a quarter of a million sculptures have been collected on the app, over 54,500 rewards claimed, 10,000 miles walked by trail goers and over 4,000 selfies uploaded to the app gallery. The mini Snoopy sculptures created by schools and community groups are being reunited with their creators, but it is hoped that the large sculptures will each be snapped up and head off to their forever homes to be looked after and cared for.
“It promises to be an exciting night and although we will be sad to see the sculptures go, we will wave them a very fond farewell knowing that the Trail has brought joy to thousands of people and hopefully raised many thousands of pounds for Dogs Trust dogs.
“We want to say a huge thank you to everyone that has supported A Dog’s Trail. Now we hope that Snoopy fans who have fallen in love with our beautiful sculptures and are happy to help us raise lots of money, whether that be businesses, individuals or groups of people who can dig deep for Dogs Trust, are ready to show their support one last time by joining us at the auction.”
The auction will take place at Cardiff’s The Coal Exchange Hotel at Building Bay, The Exchange, Mount Stuart Square on Tuesday 21 June from 6pm. To buy tickets or for more information on how to join the online auction, click here.
