What is A Dogs Trail?

To celebrate Dogs Trust’s new rehoming centre coming to Cardiff, Dogs Trust, together with the world-famous Snoopy, are inviting people to explore the city of Cardiff as well as nearby towns of Caerphilly and Porthcawl through an exciting new art trail in Spring 2022. A Dog’s Trail with Snoopy will raise funds to support Dogs Trust’s rehoming centres in Bridgend and Cardiff and help the 14,000 dogs normally cared for by the charity every year.

A Dog’s Trail will take local residents and visitors to South Wales (human, or dog!) on an adventure through the heart of Wales’ capital city and the nearby towns, featuring a minimum of 40 super-sized Snoopy sculptures designed by Welsh and national artists, as well as 80 smaller sculptures created by schools, turning South Wales into an outdoor art gallery.

The trail will be live for 8 weeks from 8th April – 5th June 2022. For more information, please visit www.adogstrail.org.uk

Why Snoopy sculptures?

We love all dogs at Dogs Trust and with Snoopy being the World’s most-beloved illustrated dog, it seemed like a natural collaboration! Snoopy is one of the most recognizable and iconic characters in the Peanuts comic strip and has been a firm family favourite spanning many generations.

How do I get involved?

For eight weeks during April to early June 2022, you can follow our Snoopy trail as it takes over the streets, iconic buildings and open spaces of Cardiff, Caerphilly and Porthcawl.  These large 1.5m high Snoopy sculptures and their 750cm Minis will be taking up residence in the outdoor and indoor spaces of these locations and are there for everyone to view and enjoy.  Trail maps and the A Dog’s Trail official app will be available from 4th April 2022.

How many Snoopy sculptures are on the trail?

There are 40 large Snoopy sculptures as well as 75 x Mini Snoopy sculptures across the entire trail.

The large sculptures have been decorated by upcoming and seasoned artists and the Minis have been designed and decorated by local schoolchildren and community groups.

You can see where each Snoopy, big and small, will be located here https://adogstrail.org.uk/art-trail/

Is there a charge to go on the trail?

It is completely free to enjoy and follow A Dog’s Trail. Trail Maps can be picked up from various outlets around the trail route, with a suggested donation of £1 per map.

Getting around the trail

Where can I find a trail map?

You can find Trail Maps at various locations across the trail – look out for the Trail Map stockist poster.

If you would like to download the Trail map, you can do this here:  https://adogstrail.org.uk/art-trail/

You can also plot your route on Google Maps here

The official A Dog’s Trail app which will show you where all the Snoopy sculptures are located can be easily downloaded onto your phone or tablet via the Apple App Store or Google Play and is free of charge.

Will the map be in Welsh?

Yes, there is a Welsh version of the Trail map available at https://adogstrail.org.uk/cy/art-trail/ and at map stockists.

Where will the Snoopy sculptures be located?

The Snoopy sculptures will be located in various places around Cardiff City Centre, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff Parks, Caerphilly and Porthcawl.   Some of the sculptures are located at venues, which are not accessible 24/7, so please check opening times ahead of your visit, especially if you are coming on a Sunday.

How long does it take to complete the trail?

It varies depending on fitness and whether you use public transport. We recommend allowing 2.5 days for the total trail, although if you combine with some sightseeing or food on-route, you could take 4-5 days to complete it at a more leisurely pace.

Can I cycle the trail?

Yes you can cycle the majority of the trail, although you would need a good level of fitness to cover it all in a day.

Is the trail wheelchair friendly?

Yes all of the Snoopy sculptures are accessible for wheelchair users

App FAQs

Is there an App with the trail?

Yes, you will be able to download the A Dog’s Trail app from your App Store from  4th April 2022 and it is free of charge. You can sniff out each sculpture, track your progress as you walk the route and take advantage of special offers from businesses along the trail.

Finding Sculptures

Use the map; pinch and swipe the map to zoom in and out. Location settings on your phone need to be turned ON to see your location on the map. Or go to the sculptures tab to access the sculpture listings and search for the sculpture name, artist or location.

Collecting Sculptures

There is a 4 digit code found on the sculpture plaque. Click COLLECT + and enter the number. You have now collected that sculpture and if you’re lucky, you may have collected a reward at the same time.

Uploading to the Gallery

You can upload a photo to the app Gallery by clicking Upload on the sculpture page. You’ll be asked to either Take a photo or Choose from library. Images uploaded will be vetted by the team prior to being published on the app. Your photo will be seen by other app players and can be shared on social media. So get creative!

Log out of the app and back in again. To log out click on the hamburger icon in the top left hand corner. Log out is available at the bottom of the menu.

Why isn’t the app working on my device?

You should check that the app has access to your camera and location.

How can I redeem my awards?

The redemption information for each award is included on the award’s unlocked page. In many cases you will need to show the screen to the offer provider to redeem the offer. Some offers can only be redeemed once and the offer provider will input a redemption code when you use the offer.

Why should I register an account?

User registration is required, as it will mean that if you lose or change your phone, you will be able to reinstate your progress on the trail on your new phone.

I’ve lost my phone or I’ve changed my phone, can I reinstate my progress on my new phone?

If you have registered an account on your old phone, you can login in via the app on your new phone. This will reload your previous progress on the trail. It will only reinstate progress since the last time the app synched with our central server so please ensure that before logging out of the app you are connected to WiFi. This will allow the app to update our server records fully.

Why aren’t all the sculptures I’ve scanned showing as found?

This is probably because the app hasn’t had a chance to synchronise with our central server. To avoid this, please ensure that before logging out of the app you are connected to WiFi. This will allow the app to update our server records fully.

Please note that you can only be logged into the app on one device at any one time.

So if you’re switching between phones, please make sure you have logged out of the app on one device before switching to the other. To do this, click Info and then the Logout button on the Info page. Remember to re-log in when you return to the device.

Where can I find the photos that I have taken with the app?

Photos taken via the app will be stored in the phone’s gallery or camera roll. The location where photos are stored may vary on some Android phones and maybe accessible through ‘My Files’ instead of the gallery.

Why is the app not available on Windows?

We are only available to provide the app on Apple & Android due to the cost and these being the most popular operating systems.

Fundraising

How can I fundraise to help Dogs Trust?

Take part in our ‘Walk, Run, or Cycle with Snoopy’ challenge.  With this challenge, you decide how, and when you take part.  See a few sculptures in a day or visit all the sculptures over several days.  Take part on your own, in a group, or make it a relay event.

Register for free and receive a Dogs Trust branded clothing item (t-shirt, running vest, or cycling jersey), fundraising pack, and route guide.

There’s no fundraising target, so just raise what you can via our dedicated JustGiving campaign page and on completion of the challenge, every fundraiser gets a bespoke medal as a thank you for helping us to care for the thousands of dogs we rehome each year.

You can register via our website: https://adogstrail.org.uk/virtualevents/

How else does the Trail raise funds for Dogs Trust?

At the end of the trail all large Snoopy sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for Dogs Trust. We’re also running various Snoopy fundraising initiatives including a Virtual Challenge. More info at www.adogstrail.org.uk

Didn’t this cost Dogs Trust Money?  Why have they spent money on this?

The aim of A Dog’s Trail is to raise awareness and funds for Dogs Trust. All Snoopy sculptures have been sponsored by businesses and partners and will be auctioned to raise funds so that Dogs Trust can continue to care for thousands of dogs every year whilst they wait to find new loving families and homes.

Snoopy care

Can I sit on the Snoopy sculptures?

We ask you to please not sit, stand or pull on the Snoopy sculptures. They are quite delicate and sitting on them can cause serious damage.  Our Snoopy sculptures will be auctioned off at the end of the trail, and we would like them to be in the best possible condition to raise as much money as we can for Dogs Trust.

What happens if a Snoopy is vandalised?
